We the undersigned petition the council to We, the undersigned, call on Bridgend County Borough Council to urgently improve the weed-control and street-maintenance programme across Bridgend’s highways, pavements, kerbs, traffic islands and public areas.
The current weed-control programme is woefully inadequate. Across many parts of Bridgend, weeds are being left to spread along pavements, kerbs, roadsides, traffic islands and public spaces for far too long before any action is taken.
This is not simply an issue of appearance. Persistent overgrowth can obstruct drains, trap debris, create trip hazards, reduce visibility, damage surfaces over time and make neighbourhoods look neglected. Residents should not have to accept a maintenance standard that appears reactive, inconsistent and insufficient for the condition of our streets.
We recognise the need for environmentally responsible approaches to weed management, including reduced reliance on chemical treatments. However, this must be balanced with a programme that keeps
Residents in Coychurch have seen a marked decline in the
condition and maintenance of local highways, pavements, kerbs,
verges and surrounding public spaces over the past five years. What
was once a reasonably well-kept area now often appears overgrown,
neglected and poorly maintained, to the point that parts of it can
look like something out of a post-apocalyptic film.
This decline is affecting local pride, the appearance of the
village and confidence that routine maintenance is being carried
out to an acceptable standard. Coychurch should not be left looking
forgotten while residents continue to raise the same concerns year
after year.
